WEX GOALS

WEX wants to show that:

...quality alternative pop music is alive in migration countries.
It’s apparent that young people in migration countries are interested in a wide range of cultural music styles. Interesting alternative bands are popping out of the ground like mushrooms! For example, a typical migration country such as Turkey has a wide-ranging alternative music scene. In China, the young generation is submerged in pop culture and many underground bands are active in genres like punk and metal. Morocco boasts a lively rock and metal scene as well as an active hip-hop culture.

...despite cultural traditions and the ever-present mainstream pop music, the younger generation is feeling more and more attracted to the international alternative pop and rock community.
Typing in phrases such as “Morocco Metal” (or other combinations of countries and subgenres) in Google or YouTube shows that underground alternative music is very much alive among young people all over the world. The same applies to industrial techno in China, experimental noise in Vietnam, and alternative guitar bands in Turkey. Due to the influence of the Internet, the interest in experimental and alternative music continues to grow. Many young artists today are influenced and inspired by a large variety of music styles, instead of merely traditional and commercial mainstream music.

WEX Festival wants to book these musicians, bands and acts in the Dutch city of The Hague. By offering them a platform, WEX gives these acts the opportunity to present themselves to an entirely new audience. In addition, these performances can contribute to a better understanding of the many different cultures in The Hague and The Netherlands.

WEX is more than a festival; it's a movement! A movement to bring international alternative bands in contact with each other!

How can YOU join the WEX movement? You can search the web for cool international bands. You can make friends with as many international bands as you can find on MySpace, and you can become friends with WEX on www.myspace.com/wexfestival. Expand your network across as many borders as you can, and encourage your friends to do the same! This way, more and more international bands will be able to fnd each other and break out of their own local scenes!
